Mr. Toshikazu Iwaya
Overall, I think it was a very good contest. Each creation was well finished, carefully following the theme and idea. For those creations that ranked higher than others, in addition to the theme and idea, particular styling and innovation were clearly apparent.
Mr. Takuro Ogasawara
The result for the prize-winning creations was 7 to 1 for women’s wear to men’s wear. I felt energy in the men’s wear creations, so I voted for a men’s wear creation in the final vote only (smiles). The designers who win the prizes are those who are highly skilled at making clothes or can make clothes beautifully. However, I was unsatisfied that there were not so many creations capable of stirring the soul. From now on, I would like designers to focus more on concept work.
Ms. Yuma Koshino
Each designer should look back and review his/her creation. Like the top creations, the highly ranked prize-winning creations were those for which the initial inspiration was transformed into design drawings and then into a well-balanced solid form. On the other hand, those creations for which there was a gap between the drawings and solid form unfortunately missed the chance of winning a prize.
Mr. Hiroyuki Horihata
As there were many Korean students who participated from the design drawing selection stage, it was clear that there was strong promotional effort within Korea. Rather than focusing on form and silhouette, many of the creations that remained after the first selection were based on three-dimensional structures created using craftwork/handmade methods. The tailoring and creations overall were of very high standard. Those designers who came close to receiving a prize but did not win should think of this as a positive point, and those designers who won a prize should continue to try even harder to do their best without becoming too proud of their achievement.
Ms. Makiko Sekiguchi
All of the creations were impressive. The concept of each work was clearly expressed, and as many were made from textiles, it is evident that a lot of time was spent on them. Each creation pursued a theme, and many were very powerful. In particular, the creation that won the Grand Prix strongly expressed its theme from the design drawing stage, and had a simple form and well-balanced design. The finished standards of the creations in this contest were very high.
Mr. Akira Minagawa
The enthusiasm and hard work of the designers could be seen in every creation. This enthusiasm should not be forgotten when going out into the world to work as a designer. I hope that this enthusiasm does not disappear in exchange for something else.
Mr. Shunichi Mugita
This time many of the creations were conservative. I would have liked to have seen creations that are much bolder and more progressive. Although I did not hesitate in voting for the creation that won the Grand Prix, next time I am looking forward to seeing creations that can stir the soul.
Ms. Hanae Mori (Head of Judge)
Clearly, a lot of thought went into making each creation. Rather than simply clothing, I felt as though the creations of each designer were more like modern art using the human body as the theme. It would be fantastic if, in daily life, everyone could be ahead of the times and provide ideas that make society more interesting. I have high expectations for the future activities of everyone.
