Final Selection Results of 2009

The final selection event for the “2009 New Designer Fashion Grand Prix” was held at Tokyo Midtown (Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan) on October 24, 2009. A total of 29 original creations made from design drawings selected by judges in the primary stage of the competition were judged in fashion show-style.
Models paraded the creations in front of five judges, who then awarded points for the creations that most appealed to them. The Grand Prix was awarded to one creation; two creations were awarded the Prize for Excellence, one for each the Women’s Wear and Men’s Wear categories; five creations were awarded the Workmanship Prize; and 21 creations were awarded Honorable Mention.

Concept inspired by the strange and mysterious forms of deep-sea creatures, and expressed through three-dimensional silhouettes and patterns drawn conforming to geometrical principles.

    Theme: Sense of Evanescence
    The meaning of evanescence is “unsettled” or “impermanence.” Everything changes according to the passage of time and the environment. Shadows appear and change as light hits protruding portions and reflects off studs on the garment, expressing the beauty of the creation.
