Mr.Toshikazu Iwaya
Each time I am involved in this type of event, I closely review all of the creations in advance, down to the smallest details. The creation that won the Grand Prix this year had an astonishing level of hand-crafted work, even when viewed through the eyes of a designer, beautifully finished with sparkling irregular-shaped decorations. I sensed the creation’s amazing merit in the bold attempts to integrate techniques never seen before in other designs.
Mr.Takuro Ogasawara
I think the difference in the results is the “technique to express beauty.” However, including this “technique to express beauty,” I believe that the issue in the future will be to what extent everyone will be able to further hone this strong awareness of, and power to feel beauty.
Ms.Yuma Koshino
The concepts, silhouettes, color balance and contrasts of the winning creations were well done. The top three creations adopted black, a color that contrasts easily with other colors; however, in the future I would like to see something more challenging by adding or removing colors and materials; create clothing that expresses you, through which your face can be seen. To all new designers, I ask you to do one thing: reflect on yourself--your good points and what you can do well--one more time before you start on your creation.
Mr.Shunichi Mugita
This time I was very impressed that the creations of many designers were inspired by “earth work,” which is spreading globally. Even looking at the final selection results, one can strongly sense this trend. My hope for future new designers is for you to become a designer whose face can be seen. What I mean by this is, do not become an anonymous designer whose face is not seen; rather become a designer that is recognized. When someone sees your clothing they say, “That’s so and so’s design.”
Ms.Hanae Mori (Head of Judging Committee)
I felt overwhelmed by the numerous wonderful creations presented today. It was an occasion on which many of the creations could be called artworks, going beyond the range of fashion that expresses the human body. I am very much looking forward to the futures of all new designers. The most wonderful thing of all is that the new designers who made these magnificent creations will fly from Tokyo to the world.
